Sewadal Camp 2008 - Melbourne

Australian Nirankari Sewadal Camp - Melbourne 2008

Sant Nirankari Mission - Melbourne held its 1st Australian Nirankari Sewadal Camp on April 25th and 26th, 2008. The camp was a great success and a milestone in the history of the Mission in Australia. The camp was held at Sant Nirankari Satsang Bhawan, Melbourne and was attended by Rev. Chanbir Chadha Ji (President SNM Australia), Rev. Shashi Grover Ji (Vice-President of SNM Australia), Rev Indar Jit Ji (Pramukh SNM Melbourne), Rev. Harbhajan Panchhi Ji (Executive  Member SNM Australia), Rev. Devinder Rana Ji (Member Incharge SNM Australia) alongwith Sewadal members and saints from most Australian states including Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Cairns.

After registering the strength of all Sewadal units in Australia by Rev. Sunny Duggal Ji (Melbourne - Host citys Sewadal sanchalak), Rev. Devinder Rana Ji took permission from Rev. Chanbir Ji to open the Sewadal camp.

The activities began at around 7:00 pm Friday, April 25th with Sewadal Prayer followed by speeches from Australian Committee members who enlightened us about the aim and need of Sewadal.

Rev. Devinder Rana Ji reminded Sewadal members of the historical roots of Sewadal and that it was established by Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji in 1973-74. The camps that are held today all over the world are the fruit of the seed sown by Baba Ji and his spirit is alive in each Sewadal member.

Today Baba Hardev Singh Ji constantly reminds us that common thread in each persons experience is the importance of nishkam (selfless) sewa i.e. serving others without any ulterior motives and expectations of a reward in return.

All members of Australian Sewadal lead by Melbournes Sanchalak Rev. SunnyJi and Shikshak Rev Adarsh Ji along with Sydneys Sanchalak Rev. Romi Ji, Shikshak Rev. Navneet Ji and Sewadal In-charge of Adelaide Rev. RavinderJi provided excellent co-ordination services that were worth appreciation.

Day 1 - 25th April 2008, Friday
The first day of the camp started with a meeting in presence of entire Australian Nirankari Mandal members. Rev. Indar Jit Ji and Rev. Panchhi Ji congratulated Australian Sewadal especially Rev. Devinder Ji and hosts Rev. Sunny Ji and Rev. Adarsh Ji for organising this 1st Australian Nirankari Sewadal Camp. They advised further that this camp wouldnt be possible without immense efforts of these volunteers and support from all Australaian Sewadal Incharges and members. Rev. Shashi Ji also appreciated Sewadals contribution to enable such a camp to happen that too with such great strength.

The day was blessed by Rev. Chanbir Ji who thanked the Sewadal volunteers for attending and for their ongoing participation in Missions activities.  He prayed to Almighty God to keep us on the true path and continue giving Sewadal the strength to progress under HHs guidance.

Day 2 - 26th April 2008, Saturday
The second day began with Sewadal volunteers arriving at Melbourne bhawan at 8.00 am. After tea and breakfast, the first session started with a spot check of members uniform in order to make sure everyone had the right uniform. This is necessary as the Sewadal are visible representatives of the Mission, and must therefore maintain correct impression at all times. If members of the Sewadal have odd or mismatched uniforms then this will have a negative reflection on the Mission. Who will want to attend a congregation, which claims to unify mankind, if we cant unify our own uniforms?

At 10:00 am, Rev. Adarsh Ji and Rev. Navneet Ji held the Sewadal Training sessions. Purpose of these training sessions was to guide the Sewadal how to do nishkam sewa in a disciplined and organized manner, and also to remind us the purpose of this camp is also to be physically fit in order to do sewa.

The day also covered several topics such as history of the mission, need of the Sewadal camps, Sewadal uniform, duties in bhawan and Bal-Sewadal. At the same time they were given the opportunity to question the older saints about each topic and to learn from them.

The next session was P.T. and Rally, where the Sewadal volunteers undertook physical exercise and performed marching drills. The importance of this activity was also explained that members must be physically fit and disciplined in order to carry out their duties. It has been shown by members of the Sewadal all over the world in congregations, samagams, and charity events and at times of natural disasters, that the Sewadal have performed their duties actively and with discipline. This session was then followed by a well-earned break and lunch!

The final session was an explanation of the regular Sewadal duties and a discussion on further improvements and comments. Each of the usual duties that occur on a main Sunday congregation were discussed. This was useful for new members of the Sewadal who were unaware of the purpose of some of the duties. It was also useful for the members of the congregation that had also attended the training day, to understand what Sewadal does and how they can assist to help the Sewadal perform their duties more effectively.

Rev. Romi Ji shared his experiences with Sewadal and more importantly read out blessings sent via email by Rev. K R Chadha Ji (Secretary & Sewadal Voibhag SNM). Rev. Adarsh Ji read out blessings sent via sms by Rev. H S Kohli Ji (Up-Mukhya Sanchalak SNM Sewadal).

In the closing, Rev. Devinder Rana Ji shed light on the meaning of Sewadal as per Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji: "Saints in Action". That means that no matter what we do and what duties we perform, we should always remember to act and behave as a true saint and to give others the due respect as deserved by a saint. He thanked the Management committee  of SNM Australia, all the participants and Sewadal Adhikaris and the In-charges of Sewadal units for working in a spirit of mutual respect and co-operation so as to make this camp a very successful and rewarding experience as it could have not been possible without the blessings of HH Baba Ji and their continuous support.

Rev. Chanbir Ji closed this first and successful Sewadal camp by thanking SNM committee, Sewadal members and saints from all over Australia and overseas who attended this holy event in Melbourne. He prayed to His Holiness Baba Ji to bless all and provide strength for such further endeavors.
