2012 CIBC Run for the Cure
“Seva expresses the divinity hidden in man. It broadens one's heart, it destroys narrow-mindedness, and it gives delight. The evil qualities and tendencies in us can be driven away through seva.”
On September 30, 2012, with the blessings of his Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, the saints from Toronto participated in the 21st annual CIBC Run For The Cure to raise awareness for breast cancer. In Canada (2012): an estimated 22,700 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,100 will die of it. Moreover, an average of 62 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation raised over 30 million dollars for breast cancer research, education and advocacy.
About 120 saints participated in the event this year, tripling our numbers from 2011! Together, the Toronto saints raised about $2500 for breast cancer research.
The weather was perfect. Our saints finished the 5 km with smiles on their faces and a feeling of unified love. No one can measure the feeling one has in the knowledge that their selfless efforts will help others in their time of need and that we are fulfilling the ideals of our Beloved Sat Guru. As Baba Ji has stated, “One has to keep humility and never avoid Sewa. This does not only include inside the Mission but outside too.”
We ask His Holiness to bless us so that we continue to work as a united team and immerse ourselves in activities that help humankind. May we be able to spread the kindness and love, which we ourselves have experienced through this Mission.
