Feeding South Florida- Food Drive

On September 13th, 2014 the Ft. Lauderdale branch of the Sant Nirankari Mission was blessed with the opportunity to participate in the Feeding South Florida Sort-A-Thon event at the Feeding South Florida Center. The devotees of the Sant Nirankari Mission joined hands with several local organizations, namely: Muslim Women’s Organization of South Florida (MWO), Broward Sheriff’s Office and Icna Releif. The Initiative was taken by an organization called Kids for Cause, under whose umbrella, all the other organizations participated in this project.

Feeding South Florida (FSF) is one of 202 food banks comprising the Feeding America network nationwide. They are the leading domestic hunger relief organization in South Florida and work with 325 local organizations to feed the homeless and the hungry. They serve Palm Beach, Broward, Miami--Dade, and Monroe Counties through a network of nonprofit partner agencies, such as soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, group homes, and other emergency food service programs. They help anyone who is in need of food, their motto is "Hunger does not discriminate".

The task given was to sort different types of food and beverages into boxes and have everything in an organized manner. Each shift was supposed to have 100 volunteers, and about 50 volunteers were in this particular shift. The volunteers worked together as a team and boxed 16,326 pounds of food. Even with a small amount of volunteers, the task was completed by everyone with huge smiles on their faces.

This event was covered by a TV channel called TV Asia and was broadcast 6 different times throughout Unites States and Canada. This was a blessed opportunity for the Fort Lauderdale sadh sangat to serve the South Florida Community.
