The Satguru’s Hand! We are the Soul, not the Body!

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Radio Ruhaniyat! I’m Preet Sahi.

Spirituality can be recognized in so many ways.

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience! We are souls going through this journey of living life as humans. Our identity is our soul, not the body. With time, the face changes, the body changes, but the soul never changes.

God often communicates with us through other souls. When we want to communicate with God, we do Simran: or prayer! But when we want God to communicate with us, we go to Satsang. It is in a satsang, that we will hear what the soul needs to hear. God uses other souls to reach out to us. Through the speeches, songs, and bhajans, our unasked questions often get answered, and our minds are put at ease.

I experienced one such divine instance when God reached out to me and blessed me through another soul. June had been an incredibly busy month as I prepared for the Nirankari Spiritual Summit, or NSS, in Houston, Texas. I was trying to multi-task between work, home, NSS, my daughter’s wedding, and several other commitments at the same time.
I had to fly out to Houston the next morning and was trying desperately to finish work tasks alongside the last minute preparations for NSS. By evening time, I felt swamped and overwhelmed with unfinished tasks because I had too much to do and very little time left before the day ended.

It was about 5:15pm that day when I realized that I still had to get my fingerprints taken for an important document for the state department. Most offices had closed for the day and I looked up places that were still open. I called one that was about to close. The lady at that office agreed to stay open a little late to accommodate me. When I reached the office, she was the only one still there. She opened the door, took one look at me and said, “Relax! It’s okay!” I immediately realized that even my face gave away how stressed I was. Her expression instantly made me feel better.

She took my fingerprints and then said that she also needed to take my picture for my documents. She asked me to sit in a chair in front of a plain background which was set up for taking pictures. As I sat down on that chair, for the first time in the entire day, I felt relaxed and relieved as if I hadn’t sat down in a very long time. While she was preparing her camera, I started doing Simran and praying to God. I then asked myself why I felt so overwhelmed when I lived in God’s awareness and knew that He was always with me.

It is traditional in the Indian culture to place your hand on someone’s head to bless them. I started praying to our Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev ji, our prophet at the time, and asked for blessings that she keep her divine hand on my head and bless me so that I never get overwhelmed, no matter what my situation may be.

As I prayed in my mind, the lady in the office said that she was ready to take my picture. She then said that my hair was all over the place and asked if I would mind if she fixed my hair. I said sure go ahead. She started adjusting my hair trying to fix it. The next moment she held her hand on my head as if trying to settle the static in my hair. In an instant, I realized that I had just asked Satguru Mataji to keep her hand on my head to bless me and she had used another soul as her vessel to do it. It didn’t matter that this person did not even know me. What mattered was that she was another soul in whom God lived, and through her I received blessings. It didn’t matter that this lady did not belong to the Nirankari Mission and it did not even matter that she did not belong to my community, country, religion, or background. She was a complete stranger, but she fulfilled such a divine task. Her gesture instantly made me feel grateful and so much better knowing I truly experienced the Satguru's blessings upon me.

The Significance of the Satguru is above and beyond everything else in the Universe. Kabir ji says: “Guru Gobind, dou kharhe, kake lagu paye, Balihari Gur apne, Gobind diyo bataye” Kabir ji asks: If both, Guru and God in form of Gobind were before me, whose feet should I touch?” He then says, “It has to be the Guru’s feet, because without him, I would not have known God?”

With Satguru Mata Sudiksha Savinder Hardev ji, being our current Satguru now, I pray that Her divine grace always showers blessings upon me!

We get blessings all the time. Most often we fail to recognize them. Both God and the Satguru reach out to us through other people, through instances and even through messages in the radio, TV, and through songs that strike the right cord at the right time. It is a matter of us recognizing the right signals. Every moment, look out for God because He dwells in everyone and is everywhere. Most often we fail to recognize the blessings awaiting us in every single moment. His blessings are ready to be delivered to us; it is a matter of us being prepared to receive the blessings. He is always with us; it is us, who need to remember to be with Him!

-Until next time, this is Preet Sahi reminding you to Stay Spiritual!
