The Mensa Convention! Simplicity is an Art!

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Radio Ruhaniyat!

A few years ago, there was a Mensa convention in San Francisco. Mensa is an international organization for people with exceptionally high IQs. Several of the Mensa members went out for lunch at a local cafe.

When they sat down, one of them discovered that the salt shaker contained pepper, and the pepper shaker contained salt. How could they swap the contents of the two bottles without spilling any, and using only the available tools at hand? Clearly -- this was a job for Mensa minds.

The group debated the problem, presented ideas, and finally, came up with a brilliant solution involving a napkin, a straw, and an empty saucer. They then called the waitress over, ready to dazzle her with their solution.

"Ma'am," they said, "we couldn't help but notice that the salt shaker contains pepper and the pepper shaker contains salt..."

But before they could finish, the waitress interrupted & said... "Oh -- sorry about that."

She leaned over the table, unscrewed the caps of both bottles and switched them.

There was dead silence at the Mensa table.

This goes to show that for most of the problems in our lives, there are quick and simple solutions. It is we who over complicate them! Sometimes you just need a different perspective. ‘Change the Caps,’ and enjoy life!

Practicing spirituality is very simple at its core, but we tend to over-complicate everything.
When something is offered to us as an easy solution, we don’t accept it. It must be too good to be true! If an item seems too inexpensive, we think that it’s obviously poor quality and instead, we’ll justify buying the more expensive counterpart.

People go through so many rites and rituals to achieve God, when in reality, God is everywhere, within us too. Some people inflict pain or suffering on themselves, fasting for days on ice-capped mountains and bathing in ice-cold water, all in the name of religion. But God is watching us, knowing our thoughts every single moment. He would much rather we live ethical, moral, principled lives helping others and doing good in the world.

Our holy books are God’s messages, they serve as the manual for how to live life, how to achieve spirituality. Do we truly follow the teachings of our prophets? Do we really practice true and pure religion? What we’ve learned should reflect in how we live our lives. We receive blessings only when we fulfill our spiritual duties towards God.

Newton’s Third Law of Motion says that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. What goes up must come down. What we give out comes back to us in the form of Karma. We often realize that if we treat someone poorly, sooner or later someone else will end up treating us the same. If we cheat someone, someone will cheat us. When we wish evil for others, there will be someone out there, wishing evil for us. And if we give out hatred, we’ll receive hatred. In the same way, when we treat others well, we get treated well. If we wish good for others, we’ll get the blessings back for ourselves. If we are nice to others, others will be nice to us. And when we give out love, we receive love. It’s that simple.

When we focus on the simplicity of spirituality, we will find life to be much more valuable and meaningful. So stop overthinking and overcomplicating life. Just be kind, be compassionate, and remember that God is always with you.

-Until next time, this is Preet Sahi reminding you to Stay Spiritual!
