Spirituality: From Dawn To Dusk!

Hello everyone and Thanks for joining us for this episode of Radio Ruhaniyat. Today’s topic is Spirituality: From Dawn to Dusk!
In any typical day, we have approximately 960 minutes from the moment we open our eyes, to the moment we go to sleep; to remain spiritually connected. How much time in a day are we actually spiritual? Being spiritual is entirely a state of mind. It is just a matter of being aware of the divine. So how many minutes, while we are awake do we spend with the conscious awareness that God is with us?
Awareness of God should be a way of life and its existence should be in our sub-conscious mind.

Just like the popular quote:
"Bheek fakiri seekhni Panhari se seekh.
Baat kare sakhiyan se Dhyaan gagar ke beech"
Back in the days, when the village women filled pots with water from the well, they would balance several pots on their head and would walk back home while they would chit-chat with each other. All along, their sub-conscious mind was focused on balancing the pots on their heads, yet they talked and laughed with each other on their way back home. From dawn to dusk, our days should be spent with the same sub-conscious awareness. No matter what we do throughput the day, our sub-conscious mind should be focused on the divine at all times.

After we wake up, first and foremost; we should pray to God; even if its while lying in bed, and ask Him to be with us throughout the day: every single moment. Ask Him for His blessings so that every moment is as per His will, not ours.
Taking a shower in the morning should be symbolic of washing away all our negative habits and thoughts. We should ask the divine to forgive us for our sins and bless us with purity in our thoughts, actions and words: just as if we immersed ourselves in a spiritual "Sarovar".

When we dress up and wear our clothes, it is time to remind ourselves that our soul changes bodies just like we change clothes. Those moments should remind us of who we really are and hence focus on Self-Realization. When we dress up and prepare to start the day, remember to fill in love within you when you wear your shirt or the top because that is what is sheltering your heart: which is full of love! When you wear your bottom, remind yourself to be strong and be a pillar of strength both for yourselves and for whoever you meet during the day; because our legs are the support system for the entire body. Wearing shoes should remind us that we are merely the dust of one's feet and hence should remain humble throughout the day. When you present your face to the world, promise yourself to be the face that is full of devotion. No matter who looks at you, your divine face should be able to remind them of God. This happens only when our face wears a smile and our immense love and understanding reflects through our eyes.

Whenever we eat, we should remember to thank the Almighty for blessing us enough that we have food on the table. Invite the Lord's formless self to come and dine with you in your few moments of gratitude. When you sit in your car, ask Him to come and steer you and your life in the right direction. Every time we drive to work, it should be symbolic of going for a pilgrimage. Just remember that we ourselves have no capabilities and it is His blessing that we can even drive anywhere. Just let the Lord know that you are surrendering yourself to Him and that you are merely a medium and a tool to perform all His tasks.

The work world is in reality, an opportunity to serve mankind. We keep talking about "Sewa" or service for a good cause. No matter what jobs we all are doing, it is contributing to a divine operation being conducted to serve mankind. Doing our jobs with the intention of serving others helps us remain spiritual. With the right intentions, our work place becomes a temple if we start seeing our colleagues as devotees and people of God.

Listening to music turns into a spiritual retreat because in some shape or form, we create the ability to see the divine magic behind sounds and melodies. In many cases, the words can also be related to God. Cooking at home can turn into an experience of preparing a "Community Meal" or "Langar" even if it is for the family because after all, if people in religious places are devotees, then the people at home are just as much devotees and children of the same God. And our devotion and faith has the power to turn our own homes into temples. In the same manner, washing dishes and cleaning up afterwards, is also sewa, but in the form of serving the household.

Communication throughout the day, regardless of whether it is at the work place, at home or in the real world, should always be with the awareness that we are communicating with people of God. If we hurt them in any way, then the father: God, will not like it. God is watching me and the other person; and regardless of what the person's nature, he is just as dear to God as I am to Him.

Before we go to bed, we must remember to recap the day and make ourselves aware of our shortcomings and reinforce how we can make the next day a better one. Don't forget to pray and thank the Lord for a blessed day and ask for His blessings to be able to remember Him for many more minutes than today. There is a lot of power in the saying: "A family that prays together, stays together". So try to say your prayers together, as much as you can.

Our entire day should be spent with the awareness that God is like a spiritual camera, which is rolling 24/7. This camera has X-ray capabilities, which can see and read our thoughts as well and it does not edit the good or the bad. No matter what we do or think, it gets recorded into its divine memory, so handle every moment very spiritually: You're live on "Camera Divine"!

-Until next time, this is Preet Sahi reminding you to Stay Spiritual!
