Desires! Needs And Wants!

Desires are part of human existence. They will continue or rather should continue for as long as we live so that we are inspired and motivated to succeed throughout our lives. The difference lies in the kind of desires we maintain within ourselves. We had lots of desires as children growing up. We wanted the best pens to write with…. the coolest notebooks…..an hour of sports break instead of half hour and so on. This wish list of ours kept changing as we grew older but they were very much there. Some were realistic, others absurd; some became reality and others did not. In the end, the list never ended but it kept growing longer. Every desire, which was not fulfilled, was either forgotten or left a sense of incompleteness. Every desire fulfilled, boosted our ego. But most of our desires were our "wants".

As we get blessed with divine knowledge, we start to leave our "I" in the possession of the Almighty. We begin to understand that all materialistic possessions belong to Him. We all have desires despite our spiritual platform. We still want to succeed in our professions….we still want a bigger house, a luxury car and so on. But if we surrender to His will, we will get whatever we "need": not what we WANT, but what we NEED. All our desires are now based on our "needs" as per the guidance of our master. The only thing we do then, is bow at the True Master’s feet and ask to be blessed.
These desires will never end but if they are according to the will of God, we will enjoy them if they are fulfilled, and if not, then we are still content with the faith that something better is just around the corner. The key is to surrender unconditionally.
"Sukh saare duniya de pa de meri jholi wich, pher wi milayi rakhi santaan di toli wich"

Bless me with all the material pleasures but keep me still in the company of saints.

Desires existed before receiving enlightenment, and will continue after enlightenment. The difference is that before we became spiritual, we demanded from God. But after understanding GOD, we learn to SHARE our desires with God but with surrender and acceptance.

Before realization, we blindly wanted and demanded from God, without thinking of the consequences or without taking the time to think of what it would be like to actually receive what we asked so desperately for. After realization, we begin to share with God, our desires and allow Him to decide what is best for us. We then graduate to a level when we don’t even need to ask. He knows our desires and blesses us with more than what we deserve. We begin to realize that God is capable of giving us whatever it is that we want. There is no shortage in God's abundance....however, only God will know what is best for us. We might get tired of asking and receiving, but He never gets tired of giving. In our ignorance, we may have equated "things" with happiness, but then after being enlightened, when we realize the source of all happiness and the source of all things, we also realize that we will never live with lack of anything....for now we know that Almighty truly is watching over us at all times.

Just staying connected with Almighty God, allows you the security and wisdom that whatever you need; will be granted and whatever you wish for will be considered.

When it comes to desires, this formula has always guaranteed happiness:

Ask for whatever it is that you wish for from God and remember to also ask, "This is what I desire, but only give me what you think is best for me." After praying, surrender to God and accept His will. This means that getting your wish and not getting it feels exactly the same to you because you are in acceptance with the Almighty to give only that, which will truly give you happiness.

God's grace puts everything in real perceptive in terms of spirituality. Spirituality drives our life. Surrendering to the Almighty purifies our hearts, thoughts and intentions. Nothing can be inappropriate or unaccepted by God, which has been brought by all of these pure elements. Having a desire is never a bad thing but the same desire can tie and tangle you in its own forces, which can be quite painful. It really is a person's own individual choice: either he/she is happy the way they are living or they would like to live it differently. More importantly, would they be happy living that way and what will bring everlasting happiness in their lives?... there is no preferred or un-preferred way. As we all are aware; devotion is devotion... we should not be a devotee for worldly terms. When we follow the Almighty, we purify ourselves and goodness follows. There are Three Things in Life that destroy a person: Greed, Pride and Anger!

Always pray that Dear GOD, when I lose hope, help me to remember that your love for me is greater than all my disappointments, and your plans for my life are better than all my dreams! May God continue to bless us all with everything that is best for us!

-Until next time, this is Preet Sahi reminding you to Stay Spiritual!
