Yorkshire Local History

The local history of the Yorkshire Branch of the Sant Nirankari Mission began in 1967 with the benign blessings of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji. In the summer of this year Huddersfield City was blessed with the physical presence of Baba Ji who at that time visited Rev. Giani Channan Singh Ji's residence. With his divine grace Baba Ji inspired that the message of brotherhood filled with love and humility should too begin in this part of the country.

At that time there were only a few devotees who then began to meet at each others residences and sought to run the congregation and worship the Almighty God.

It was not until 1968 a year later that once again Huddersfield was blessed with the physical presence but this time of Baba Avtar Singh Ji (also referred as Shahenshah Ji) and made his stay in the city for about a month.

This was a very special time for the devotees as two divine visits had been made in such a short space of time - this was just the humble beginning of what was about to flourish. The divine seed of such devotion that was sown was to spiritually grow and grow.

Soon after Baba Avtar Singh Ji's visit, St Margaret's Church in the city of Bradford became the venue for the congregations to be held on a weekly basis.
