Sant Nirankari Mission - Toronto: Community Services - Environment

With "Clean Living, Healthy Living" moto, the members of Sant Nirankari Mission (SNM) Toronto regularly participate in various cleanliness drives in coordination with local communities. These include Spring Cleaning, Park Cleaning and other such initiatives.

TREE PLANTING ON EARTH DAY

Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year worldwide. To mark this occasion, the city of Toronto organizes a tree plantation drive in Downsview Park. This is a new and exciting venture for members of SNM Toronto. The Mission has been playing a part in planting new trees for the last 2 years. Our goal is to make this a national based initiative, which involves the participation of other SNM branches all across Canada during Earth Week to plant trees.

ADOPT-A-ROAD PROGRAM

The newest initiative in Toronto has been the Adopt-a-Road program. SNM Toronto has adopted a portion of a roadway extending from Bovaird Dr. west from Mississauga Rd to Winston Churchill Blvd., which is about 3.4 km. In this program the regional roadsides are cleaned and cleared of garbage and thereby contributing to a clean and healthy community. Adopt-a-Road is a way for environmentally conscious citizens to make a personal contribution to a cleaner environment. Under the program, groups or individuals agree to adopt a section of road right-of-way and keep it clean. The Region has recognized the SNM Toronto's participation by erecting large signs at either ends of the designated roadway acknowledging their efforts. Dedicated members of SNM are regularly participating mulptiple times every year in this clean up initiative.
