Sant Nirankari Mission, Sydney participates in Winter Sleep out raising funds for the homeless

Sant Nirankari Mission (SNM) - Sydney branch organized a winter sleep out on Friday 30 May 2014 to support Mission Australia's noble work of helping the homeless in Australia.

According to accepted figures more than 100,000 Australians are homeless on any given night; with approximately half aged under 25 years old.

On this night, some SNM volunteers slept on floors in the hall, some camped outside in the open and few of them slept in the verandahs of the Nirankari Bhawan. A few of the younger volunteers decided to get a real taste of the harsh lifestyle by sleeping on the benches out in the cold.

Volunteers of the Mission also participated in the event by raising money, where some of them sought sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues.

The funds raised will be going towards vital Mission Australia homeless services. These services include assisting women and children to leave domestic violence relationships, to help young people without a stable home who are staying temporarily with friends, and help those living on the streets.

The SNM raised funds of $ 4,200, which significantly exceeded the set target of $2,500 making the event a success.

The SNM organized this event as part of their community service program and more such events will be organized in the future.
