Sant Nirankari Mission, Sydney hosts JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes

This year Sant Nirankari Mission - Sydney took steps to change the future of Type 1 diabetes (T1D) by hosting the Walk to Cure Diabetes on 29 November 2014 in Lizard Log, Western Sydney Parklands. The Walk to Cure Diabetes, an initiative of Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, is the world's largest event dedicated to T1D. Since the start of this event 20 years ago JDRF has raised nearly $30 million for vital research and raised awareness of T1D.

T1D is a serious disease that affects 122,300 Australian children and adults. They need up to six insulin injections every day or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump, just to stay alive.

Participation in this walk reiterates in action the teachings of His Holiness Nirankari Baba's that "Service of Mankind is Service of God." The mission has participated in these walks past many times in the past. This year we also organized the walk in Lizard Log, Western Sydney Parkland near Wetherhill Park on Saturday Nov 29 from 8.30 am onwards.

Around 80 saints from mission participated in the walk. These included adults, elderly saints, teenagers and young kids. In spite of the severe heat conditions, one could see the devotees walking with full enthusiasm wearing green t-shirts with slogan "Peace not Pieces". Young kids could be seen on prams, riding cycles and also walking alongside their parents. Though each devotees had different age and health conditions but the same spirit of serving the mankind was evident.

It was a 3 km walk at the end of which lunch was served to the participants.

Over $1000 was raised by for the charity during the walk in cash by the saints.
