October 17, 2015 was an exciting day for the youth of Sant Nirankari Mission, Phoenix branch. The youth gathered at the Lund House, a part of Hospice of the Valley, to cook their hearts out in the spirit of giving. The Nirankari Mission had worked in coordination with Hospice of the Valley to have a cooking event for the children so they could experience first-hand the idea of how their efforts would directly help others in the community. Children would cook their favorite dishes and this would then be donated to the Hospice patients and their families, so that families did not have to go searching for food in their time of need. This was also in memory of Poojya Raj Mata Ji and her efforts to help all those around her.
The event started weeks
in advance with planning the dishes, gathering the required ingredients and
cooking utensils and then the actual day of the cooking. The event occurred
from 1PM to 3PM in Gilbert, Az., in the kitchen at Lund House. Kids had a
lot of fun chopping, boiling, mixing, baking, frying and serving. During
this time, patients’ families, Hospice staff and volunteers came by to see
what was cooking and to appreciate their efforts. The kids all had a great
time and were excited about doing something similar in the near future. Kids
who participated included Aakrit and Niharika Shandil, Pushpit and Prerna
Singh, Nikhil and Sohil Kahlon, Jasmeen and Kareena Sandhu. Adult
supervisors included Anu Iyengar, Dolly Shandil and Dimpi Kahlon. Dishes
presented were pasta primavera, pasta with alfredo sauce, salad with
garbanzo beans, tabouleh salad, chocolate chip cookies and brownies. The
dishes looked so yummy, it was hard to leave without tasting some of it!!
Bon Appetit!!
