(His Holiness Baba Hardev)

Regional English Samagam

Leicester

25 July 2010

To express and share the philosophy of the Sant Nirankari Mission in English, the Leicester branch hosted a Regional English Samagam on the 25th July 2010.

Saints from around the country and distinguished guests, started arriving around 9.00 am and were greeted by local saints. They were then led to the breakfast area by the Sevadal members. The congregation started at 11.00 am as scheduled with Sister Niveta Alagh Ji, the stage secretary for the day, welcoming all saints and guests. On stage was Rev. Peter Thacker Ji from Birmingham.

Brother Supreet Suri Ji started with a song that reminded us that although the state of the world today is not how it was given to us by God, all is still not lost and that it is not too late. All that we need is love to turn this world in to paradise once again.

Brother Shubhdeep Arora Ji further emphasised on the significance of love by mentioning a couplet by Roshan Ji “ho pyaar to barso bhi nikal jaate hain pal mein, ho nafrat to pal bhar bhi guzaara nahi jaata” meaning “If there is love, years pass by in seconds and if there is hate, passing a second seems impossible”. He also quoted His Holiness who once said “ek umar bhi kam hai mohabbat karne ke liye, log waqt kaise nikalte hai nafrat ke liye” which means “A lifetime is not enough to love, I wonder how people make time to hate”.

Brother Anish Khinda Ji raised a question which drew everyone’s attention. He said that there is not doubt the our Lord Master Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji is a perfect coach, but are we interested players, are we interested devotees? He went on further to say that we turn to God for help when we are down, but do we remember to thank God in better times?

Sister Vibhati Bhatia Ji then sang a melodious song and managed to get the whole congregation immersed in devotion:

“Fortunately for me, you came and opened up my eyes. You saved me from myself and brought me close to you.”

Following her, Sister Mayuri Ji explained through a poem that this world can be a better place if we simply learn to smile. She then drew inspiration from His Holiness whose smile is a cure to all problems and brings a glow on everyone’s face.

Brother Puneet Ahuja Ji then identified ego as the root cause of discontent, fear, jealousy, anger, pettiness, selfishness and overall unhappiness in this world. He further explained that a ray of light when passed through a prism produces many different colours; which appear to be something different but are actually merely a refraction of the original source of light. Similarly Maya, the illusion is merely a refraction of Nirankar, the truth.

This was then followed by inspirational songs by Sister Ruby Ji (“Let it be”), Sister Shobhita Ji (“Blessings”) and one of the guests, Brother Sam Ji (“The Children”) and thought provoking poems by young Brother Arpit Ji (“Living with the truth”), Sister Vaishali Ji (“Forgiveness”), Brother Armaan Ji (“Heaven on Earth”), Brother Sehaj Ji and Brother Gurdeep Ji.

Brother Sanj Ji shared his experiences of the opportunity that he got recently to tour with His Holiness to remote areas of North India. He explained how His Holiness sacrifices his own comforts to comfort others.

Brother Kel Kalyan Ji then mentioned that great scientists of the past have failed to explain the purpose of life. He explained that today, with the blessings of the Satguru, we know that the purpose of this life is to know God and attain salvation. This salvation can only be attained through humility. Towards the end he mentioned that we are spiritual beings having a human experience and that we are souls which are sub-divisions of the over soul, the super soul, God. If we let our souls take charge, we will be able to live as the image of God.

Brother Surjit Dhami Ji in his speech emphasised on the significance of God Knowledge. While quoting Sant Kabir Ji, he mentioned that there are several things that can make us sad, several things that can make us happy, but there is only one thing that can make us blissful and that is this God Knowledge. People are ready to find God through intellect and reason but not through humility which is the essence of devotion. He finally said that God Knowledge is like a breeze – it moves subtle people like subtle flowers.

Rev. Baldev Khinda Ji first described the attributes of true master and then went on to say that this God Knowledge and in turn revelation cannot be earned, snatched or inherited, it is given in grace by Satguru. It is bestowed upon us in benediction by expressing a genuine desire to know God. He mentioned that great theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking once said that maybe this space is God but he could not say with conviction. Only Satguru has the conviction to show us God.

The Bhabha sisters then followed with an uplifting song. Brother Navdeep Anand Ji whilst thanking everyone for attending on behalf of the Leicester congregation also touched upon the significance of love. He quoted His Holiness who once said in a congregation in Oxford that it is not dictators or people who cause pain and suffering that are remembered the most, it is the people who love, who bring about peace. He said that the message of this Mission can only be spread with love just as a child can only be taught to do the right things through love.

Before the final song by the Leicester Bal Sangat, Rev. Malkit Khinda Ji remembered Rev. Gian Singh Ji who devoted his life to this Mission. He mentioned that the great saint’s life was full of faith and inspiration.

In the final discourse, Rev. Peter Thacker Ji touched upon most of the above speeches, songs and poems. He dwelled upon the thought that God shows us signposts at every point in our life. Deep down inside our soul knows but our mind chooses to ignore these signposts. He further said that we constantly need to evaluate ourselves and see if we are progressing in this life of spirituality and what value are we bringing to this world.

Words alone are nothing unless there is action. What’s written in scriptures is not just to be read but lived upon.

He mentioned that someone once said to Baba Avtar Singh Ji that everything that you are saying is already written in the scriptures in different languages and Baba Avtar Singh Ji replied that they have written it, and he is endorsing it.

Towards the end of his discourse he said that God Knowledge is a starting point in life. Our destination is revelation which can only be attained by living a life as advised by the Satguru and not just speaking about it.
