On Saturday, February 23, 2013 Sant Nirankari Mission Melbourne, Australia, organised Guru Puja Diwas at its Rowville premises celebrating the birthday of the Mission’s present Head, His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj.

On this special day for all Nirankaris, Hon. Nicholas Kotsiras, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship, Victoria, inaugurated the new Community Kitchen which was part of the $150,000 grant offered to the Mission by the Victorian State Government to develop existing driveway and kitchen facilities.

Mr Nick Wakeling MP and Parliament Secretary for Health, Victoria was really excited by the completion of the project as he’s been involved in this grant announcement from the beginning. Mr Raj Kumar, Consul General of India, Melbourne complimented the efforts of all volunteers and their support towards local community welfare.

Cr Joe Cossari and Cr Darren Pearce, Knox City Council, Marta Marot, Chairperson, Multicultural Harmony Festival and SNM Australia Executive Committee highlighted the Mission’s contribution towards community welfare activities especially blood donation and clean up drives.

Dr Ali Khan, CEO, Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation, Gwenda Rait, Vice Chairperson, Knox Interfaith, Vasan Srinivasan, Michael Migliaccio, Teresa Koronczewski, Zygmunt Bielinski, Dr Manjula O’Connor, David Gilbert, Raj Dudeja and many other dignitaries made this event a real success with their participation and support.

The driveway project was completed in mid-2012 and then Kitchen project started towards the end of 2012. The Kitchen would be a real example to reflect the efforts and hard work of the volunteers of the Mission how the government funds can be utilised to the best of its use. This level of project would cost more than double of its cost without the in-house participation in all facets of the project. SNM awarded trophies to these volunteers’ families to honour their selfless services and also recognised the Builder, Mr Ibraim and Project Manager Mr Kerry.

On February 23, 2013 the 59th Birthday of Nirankari Baba Hardev Singh Ji was celebrated in Chandigarh as ‘Guru Puja Diwas’. Thousands of devotees including children and women participated in the cleanliness drive which started at 6 a.m. and terminated at 9 a.m. On this occasion Dr. B.S Cheema, Zonal Incharge and Shri Mohinder Singh, Sanyojak Sant Nirankari Mandal, Chandigarh, were also present along with other Adhikaris. During this campaign roads, parks, dispensaries, community centres, schools, etc. situated in Sector-15, Bhaskar Colony Sector-25, Dhanas, Khuda Lahora, Naya Gaon, Kansal, Area Sector-30, 32, Ram Darbar, Hallomajra, Colony No-4, Behlana, Raipur Khurd, Darua, Bapu Dham Colony Sector-26, Sector-40, 52, 56, Daddu Majra, Maloya Colony, Area Sector-45, Colony No-5, and Nirankari Bhawans were cleaned. Children were carrying different mottos like “Nar Seva Narayan Pooja”, “Dharam Jorata Hai Torata Nahi”, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”, “Save Trees Save World”, “Green City Clean City” and “Plant Trees for Better Tomorrow”, etc.

Later on, at 10.30 am tree plantation was started in Sector-29, opposite Traffic Police line where about 200 saplings were planted. On this occasion, Member Incharge Parchar Vibhag Smt. Joginder Kaur, Shri Naranjan Singh IAS (Retd), Dr. B.S Cheema Zonal Incharge and Shri Mohinder Singh, Sanyojak, and Mukhi Shri Sham Sunder, Shri S.S. Banga, Shri Tarsem Singh and other Adhikaris were present along with Mayor Shri Subhash Chawla. He said “This campaign is started as a religious practice by the Mission, it is also advantageous for the city as well. People are planting trees, which is beneficial for all the citizens of Chandigarh. So I really appreciate their efforts.”

Shri Mohinder Singh conveying the messages of Nirankari Baba Hardev Singh Ji said, “Our earth is like a Global Village. As such cleanliness of earth is the cleanliness of our own houses.” Regarding pollution, Baba Ji says, “Whether inner or outer, pollution is always harmful for a person.” He always exhorts to make God dwell in our hearts so that we are protected from doing evil deeds and serve the humanity selflessly. Emphasizing the need for social welfare awareness, Baba Ji highlights Mission’s involvement in the activities of Environment Conservation.

The Sant Nirankari Mission’s Mathura branch celebrated Guru Puja Diwas on February 23, 2013 which was also the 59th Birthday of His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, with cleanliness drive, tree plantation and several other activities.

The celebrations began with Cleanliness Drive early in the morning under the guidance of Shri H.K. Arora, Sanyojak. Devotees including women and children participated with a great spirit of devotion and enthusiasm. Through placards they gave the message that we should keep not only the environment but minds also clean.

This was followed by tree plantation which was inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner Smt. Manisha Gupta. She appreciated the attention being paid to environment by the Mission besides its spiritual message. She said it was an example to be followed by all.

Some devotees led by Shri Kishore Swarn distributed fruits and snacks among patients in the district hospital.

The day was also marked by a Sewa Dal Rally in which men and women in uniform presented physical exercises and games. Addressing the rally Rev Jagannath Nirankari said that Guru Puja or devotion to Satguru in real sense mean to follow his teachings in day-to-day life.

Tree Plantation Livingstone in Scotland

The Guru Pooja Diwas celebrations concluded in Scotland with a tree planting drive event which took place on March 5, 2013 in Livingston in the West Lothian County of Scotland. Members of the Sant Nirankari Mission from various Scottish towns including Glasgow and Edinburgh enthusiastically took part in what became a very eventful day.

Saints gathered in the morning and were briefed by Stuart Macdonald on the process and methodology of plantation and the results that would be achieved. The members planted approximately 150 birch trees under the leadership and guidance of the local Parmukh Rev Tarsem Sahunta Ji. West Lothian Council Land Services officers appreciated the good work the Sant Nirankari Mission.

It started with the ‘Tree Plantation and Cleanliness Drive’ at Jubilee Bus Depot, Secunderabad with great enthusiasm at 6 am. Devotees and Sewa Dal of both the cities participated and rendered their selfless Sewa. Children distributed free literature to the passengers at the bus stand. Devotees carried the banners of the motto "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", "Green City, Clean City". Shri C. H. Jeevan, Manager at the bus stand praised the Sewa of the devotees and Nirankari Mission. He also told that they will try to maintain cleanliness regularly. Later many plants were planted by the devotees of the Mission.

In the Evening, a Sewa Dal Rally and Satsang programme were also organised at Sant Nirankari Satsang Bhawan, Hyderabad in the presence of Rev Shiv Kumar Ji from Nizamabad. Saints participated in the congregation through various songs, dance, poems and action songs and speeches.

Addressing the congregation, Rev Shiv Kumar Ji said that in this world, salvation can be attained only through divine knowledge bestowed by the True Master (Satguru). He said that to follows the teachings of the True Master is actually a Guru Puja.
