Blood Donation Camp in Sydney: September 26, 2009

Blood Donation Camp in Sydney

The Sant Nirankari Mission has been involved in organising and participating in Blood donation camps to serve humanity for over two decades. SNM Sydney has also been contributing to this noble cause for over fifteen years by visiting the Australian Red Cross Blood Services in Parramatta. However, on 26th September, 2009, for the first time a Blood Donation Camp was held at the Nirankari Satsang Bhawan in Marsden Park.

With the help and coordination of ARCBS’s Marketing Manager, Heather Cunningham, a mobile van for collecting blood was set up at the Bhawan from 9am to 3pm, where 58 devotees donated their blood. There were many more saints wanting to donate blood but the mobile van had reached maximum capacity. Accordingly, these saints were asked to donate blood at the blood centre in Parramatta at a later date.

President of the Mission in Australia and Sydney Parmukh Rev Chanbir ji welcomed Ms Cunningham and thanked her for organising the event. Impressed by the enthusiasm displayed by the saints, Ms Cunningham agreed to honour the request of Rev Chanbir Ji for organising blood donation camps twice a year. At the end of the camp, Ms Cunningham expressed her gratitude by saying “The Australian Red Cross Blood Service is extremely grateful to all involved in the Universal Brotherhood Mission for the outstanding success achieved with the recent blood donation drive. We'd like to thank not only the people who gave blood, but everyone who helped spread the word and contributed to the day. The great work leading up to and on the day ensured our success; and with over 50 units of blood we have contributed to saving over 150 lives”.

The ARCBS team and Ms Cunningham appreciated the efforts of SNM Sydney and praised the Mission’s support and commitment towards serving humanity. As a result the Sant Nirankari Bhawan Sydney has now become the permanent site for blood donation camps twice a year, which will be held in the months of April and October. The ARCBS team was amazed at the zest and the high morale displayed by the saints who were following the teachings of His Holiness Baba Ji that “Blood should flow in veins, not in drains”.
