Boston Center Donates to Local Food Bank to Celebrate Guru Puja Diwas 2020

With the blessings of Her Holiness Satguru Mata Sudiksha Ji Maharaj, the Boston Center celebrated Guru Puja Diwas with a food drive this year. This social welfare activity was combined with congregation. Devotional songs were shared on this day during Sangat and inspirational words were spoken on how to further spread the vision of Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj.

As a way to honor His Holiness’ selfless and tireless efforts to bring joy and peace to mankind, the Boston Youth organized a food drive with the intention to donate goods to the local food bank as done in the previous year. However, due to the current circumstances of the coronavirus and dearth of provisions facing the community, a unanimous decision was made to make a monetary donation. The funds would be of greater use to the food bank and allow them the flexibility to ensure the local Boston community would be taken care of during this unprecedented time.

The Boston Branch donated more than 400 pounds of goods and toiletries to the Greater Food Bank of Boston in 2019. In 2020, the Boston Center for Oneness donated $900 to the Greater Food Bank of Boston (GBFB). Due to the coronavirus pandemic, GBFB saw a 50% increase in demand within their network. Furthermore, with the rise in unemployment across the state more than 20,000 unemployment claims were filed recently the anticipated need will continue to rise in the weeks and months ahead.

This food bank is known to be the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the United States. The Greater Boston Food Bank is also a member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. The organization is committed to a goal of providing at least one meal a day to every person in need in Eastern Massachusetts as well as advocate for and support healthy living in communities.

May we always be ready to serve and continue to spread peace, positivity, and harmony to our communities through these selfless acts of service.
