CIBC Run for Cure: October 04, 2009

2009 CIBC Run for the Cure

With the blessings of His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, the members of the Sant Nirankari Mission Canada continue to devote their time, energy and dedication to organizing and engaging in social, charitable and spiritual activities. Participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure is one such example.

The CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada's largest single day, volunteer-led, fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, education and awareness programs. Each year, thousands of Canadians of all ages and walks of life unite to participate in the Run. Although, their reasons for participating vary, they all have the same goal; to create a future without breast cancer and to support their community for the sake of humanity.

On Sunday Oct 4, 2009, Sant Nirankari Mission Centers around the country united to do their part in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer. Branches involved in this charitable effort included Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Mission, Abbotsford, Vancouver and Toronto.

With the grace and divine blessings of His Holiness, 45 SNM members from Toronto, consisting mostly of youth took part in the CIBC run for the Cure. Toronto saints have been participating in the event since 2001 and their fundraising efforts brought in a sum of over $4, 000 for this worthwhile cause. Sporting their Sant Nirankari Mission T-shirts the saints exhibited their commitment in applying the teachings of the Satguru and engaging in efforts to spread Baba Ji’s message through their endless devotion and selfless actions.

As well, in Calgary 25 saints walked together in the CIBC Cancer event, singing, "Heal the world, make it a better place”, bringing smiles to the faces of passerbys. Despite the snow, participants from the Calgary branch of the Mission, ranging from ages 7 to 50 plus, were filled with the desire to partake in an event that served for the betterment of mankind. Their efforts alone raised $1 300 for the cancer foundation.

This was also a memorable event for the saints from the Edmonton Sadh Sangat who participated for the first time in the run. A total number of 31 saints from Edmonton partook in the event and raised $2000 in funds. After the event, the saints’ feeling uplifted and passionate in their desire to make a difference began making plans for the next year’s CIBC Run.

The participation was no less enthusiastic in Vancouver, where 27 saints walked and raised close to $500 for cancer. Arriving at the venue at 9am, the saints gathered together to take part. Thereafter, the saints expressed their desire that, with Baba Ji’s blessings, this enthusiasm and zeal carry forward into future projects directed at supporting important causes in the community.

Additionally, saints from the Mission branch including the Parmukh also participated in 5 km CIBC Run for Cancer Cure held in B.C. The 25 SNM members raised $480 through the generous donations of Mahapurush. The saints took part with great enthusiasm and prayed to Almighty for well-being of whole mankind.

Notably saints from Montreal also took part in the cancer walk. The collective efforts of all the participating Canadian SNM branches saw 153 saints participate with their fundraising efforts totaling over $8000.
