The Light of Love

In our daily lives we come across numerous individuals whether for a brief moment or for a greater length of time but the impression we leave on each person will last forever. Our outside appearances make us differentiate one another based on color, dress or the languages we speak. However, in the grand scheme of things how important are these features when our bodies are comprised of the same one element.

Our lives all originated from the one source and they will soon return to that ultimate source when our time here on Earth is complete. The moment we realize that our bodies are merely instruments for the service and welfare of others is when we can truly make our lives valuable. Baba ji has said, “Seek to understand first before you can be understood”.

When we begin to understand before seeking to be understood we spend less time judging someone based on their appearance rather we are able to see God almighty within all. I don’t think it will be the years in my life that will count at the end but how much of my time was devoted to making the world around me a better place. We can only achieve equality, tolerance, love and respect for all if we can see that the same God resides within all of us. Martin Luther King Jr once said, “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve. You do not need to have a college diploma to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace.

A soul generated by love”. The only thing that holds us back from loving and serving everyone is the lingering shadows of our ego, pride and the differences we decide to create. Recently, I read a quote describing how evil is like a shadow – it has no real substance of its own, it is simply a lack of light, “You cannot cause a shadow to disappear by trying to fight it, stomp on it, by railing against it, or any other form of emotional or physical resistance. In order to make a shadow disappear you must shine light on it”. In the same way we must shine the light of love on intolerance and our ignorance to eliminate them:

Love will always have the ability to conquer all things great and small. It is only through love that happiness will flourish and the world will learn to live in peace and harmony. In many ways we automatically think of reasons as to why we should not help someone or love them. If most of our time and effort is spent on judging someone than we will never have time to love them. In my mind the only way I know to overcome these dark shadows that creep up time to time in my life is to remember God Almighty. The source of my inspiration and all the love I have in my life is by the grace of the Almighty and the exemplary life of my Guru.
