Houston Food Bank Service, 2013

With the blessing of His Holiness, thirty saints from ages 8 to 80 performed selfless service at the Houston food bank on February 23rd from 1 - 4pm. Houston Food Bank feeds 5300 hungry every day in Houston including school children. Our task was to fill food sacks with items, hand off the bags, tape sacks, and store the sacks in bins. There were several roles that the saints took on such as being a bagger, stocker, taper, counter wrapper, stager, or recycler. The program is called the "Backpack Buddy Program". Schools distribute these sacks to the needy children for the weekends containing six meals (Breakfasts, Lunches, and Dinners). The saints successfully completed the service with compassion and humility. The Houston Food Bank showed their appreciation and accepted the humble gesture of the volunteers.
