Life is short for those who live in Divinity and it is prolonged for those who get entangled in its materialistic glamour. Life is not measured by the time span for which this body will live; it is measured by the amount of time needed to liberate the soul. The path to liberation or salvation is accomplished by first attaining God-Knowledge from the True Master and then by walking on the path of righteousness and living as per the rules of Divinity.

Very often we find ourselves praying to get our desires fulfilled. How often have we asked God to give us the strength to accept what He has planned for us? How often have we believed that His plan for us would always be better than our plans? Our plans can always fail even when we are optimistic about them, but God and His plan will never ever fail. So why not always stay on the “Sure-Shot” plan?

We all tend to make mistakes: We live and learn! Sometimes we learn from our own mistakes, sometimes for other people’s mistakes, and most times we learn from experience. Our circumstances are usually a blessing in disguise because they clearly indicate that God is giving us an opportunity to change for the better because He believes that we have the capability to enhance ourselves.

But it is never too late to get our act together and take the first step towards a positive change.

I recently read in the Sant Nirankari Magazine (May 2014) that Alfred Nobel: who invented Dynamite and then went on to operate 90 factories dealing with arms and ammunition, was one of the richest businessmen in his times. Then in 1988, the course of his life changed when his brother died. The newspapers mistook the information and actually published that Alfred himself had died. But what was more shocking for Alfred was what was written in the newspapers about him. One of the newspapers wrote: “The merchant of Death is dead”. The obituary went on to say: “Alfred Nobel; who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before, died yesterday”.

Shocked by what he saw, Alfred Nobel decided to make a positive change in his life and signed his last will and testament and set up his estate to establish the five Nobel Prizes, including the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

No matter what our life pattern has been, it is never too late to make a positive change. Most people have a mind frame such that they find it against their ego to change their ways. Such people are their own worst enemies because if anyone is hurt in the ordeal, the most damage is their own. They limit their own growth. People, who are humble, are open to positive changes and always have room to grow.

Angulimal was a murderer, but he went on to be Buddha’s devotee and transformed himself completely. Kauda Rakshas was also a cannibal and had an encounter with Guru Nanak Dev ji after which he became a Sikh and changed his life pattern forever. Alexander the Great conquered the world to become the richest person but soon realized that his entire wealth could not save him from the jaws of death.

Transformations are definitely possible. It is easy bring about a change once we are motivated and make up our mind. It is difficult when we talk about it but have no intention to do something about it.

The world today talks and raves about how things need to change. Everyone wants everyone to change but no one focusses on changing themselves. We forget that we are the world and we are part and parcel of the change being desired in the society. If each one of us focuses on changing ourselves, the entire world will see the change desired. We want to see others change, but don’t do anything to change ourselves resulting in the fact that no one changes and the world stays the same!

And Remember: Charity begins at home. When we change, the world changes with us!
