Praying for Love on Valentine’s Day! - Spread the Love!

Joy Wright-Farley, from Liverpool in New York had been a widow for eight years. She was used to being alone on Valentine’s Day. Or so she thought, until she woke up feeling blue on one Valentine morning.

Before her feet even hit the floor she said to God, “I don’t have anyone to love me this year. I really need a Valentine: the Roses, a card and dinner out tonight. But no chocolates, please! I’m trying to diet”.

By the time she had her coffee she felt more like herself. She went to work, her prayer forgotten. Then she found a giant Valentine’s Day card taped to her office door.

“We wanted to let you know how much we love you,” friends had written. It’s just a coincidence, she thought. A card was easy enough to come by on Valentine’s Day.

Late that afternoon her friend Sue called. “John and I want to take you out tonight,” she said. “We’ve spent lots of Valentine’s Days on our own. This year we want to treat you.” They’d already made dinner reservations at her favorite restaurant.

A card and dinner–wow! That was two out of three. Maybe it wasn’t a miracle, but she put on a nice outfit that evening and drove to the restaurant feeling pretty blessed.

She arrived a few minutes early. The place was jam-packed. She couldn’t even see whoever it was making his way through the crowd, just the big bouquet he was holding. A dozen red roses all for some lucky woman–me?

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” John said, reaching her at last. Sue gave her a hug. The three of them sat down at their table and Joy told them about her prayer. “The Lord gave me everything I asked for: a card, dinner and roses. I feel so loved.”

She touched her bouquet again. “What about you, Sue?” she asked. “Did John get you anything special?”

“A gorgeous box of chocolates,” she said with a smile. “But don’t even ask–I’m not sharing!”

When we pray, God hears more than we say and answers in ways which we can never imagine. We often disregard situations thinking that it is just a coincidence and more so, we usually fail to see that God’s hand is in it. Sometimes, we just think of something and it happens and we give ourselves the credit of how great we are: we usually forget that God is the one at work here.

Valentine’s Day comes around to remind us to share our love with the others around us. Although this day originated for romantic love but over the years it has trended into an opportunity to express our love and respect for all those around us. This day is not limited to girlfriends, boyfriends or spouses anymore. Look around and see who; you could bring a cheer to this year…..it’s still not too late! Whenever the opportunity comes, grab it and make a difference to someone who might just need it.

And don’t just limit your love and compassion to one day a year on Valentine’s Day. If there is anyone who deserves love in a respectful way, tell them…..if there is anyone who is lonely, give them a cheer and let them know that you care: Be it your parents, relatives, friends or colleagues…..

As Dalai Lama says: “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries, without them, humanity cannot survive”. It is very easy to love those that we are attached to. Love in its true essence is Love, when it can be shared with those who need it most. Look around and see who you can bring a smile to. Make a difference to those who might really need it….BECAUSE LOVE IS A LANGUAGE THAT THE DEAF CAN HEAR AND THE BLIND CAN READ. May be there is someone around who had been praying for the Valentine cheer just like Joy. May be…..just may be you could be that tool which God had been planning to use to bring joy to people like Joy…….Spread the love and make this world a better place for both you and me!
