Where does GOD fit in?

Rakhee Salaria, 30.10.2005

Christmas, for so many of us, is nothing more than a time of jollification , of all kinds of social activity, of goodwill expressed in giving and receiving presents.  Some go even farther and render kindness to the lonely, the needy, the underprivileged- done without overlooking for reward or personal advantage.  All this, and much more, is associated with the celebration of Christmas but our question still remains unanswered, where does God fit in?

Of course, the simple answer of many people is, He doesn’t! Our attitude may not be so blas as that of a young woman portrayed in a cartoon.  She and a young man are shown looking at a scene in a shop window, and the caption reads, “Look, they are even bringing religion into Christmas now!” Yes, indeed, where does God fit in?

Did you ever stop to consider that in the birth of Jesus Christ, “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself” (II Corinthians 5:19).  That “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son” (John 3:16).  The heights and depths of this giving by God was of such magnitude, so beyond human understanding or expression, that the eloquent apostle, Paul, could but exclaim, as he contemplated the mystery of the incarnation, “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift” (II Corinthians 9:15)

Yes, this is where God fits in.

But perhaps you find it to profound, too abstract to grasp.  The question has now become, “Where do I fit in?” What happened at Bethlehem is that God became man; Deity was expressed in terms of human personality.  And the purpose?  “That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). “As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become sons of God, even to them that believe on his Name” (John 1:12).  When Christ was born at Bethlehem God took upon Himself the form of the mortal that through Him we might become immortal, i.e. receive the gift of eternal life.

God fits in alright, but where do you fit in?
