A blood donation camp was held on Manav Ekta Diwas, at
West Midlands Bhawan in the UK. For many years the UK has
held blood donation camps but this was the first time in 31
years that the opportunity arose to hold the camp on the
24th of April itself. Blood was given in memory of Baba
Gurbachan Singh Ji and other devotees who sacrificed their
lives for the Mission.
This event proved extra special as the National Blood
Donation Camp was held in conjunction with the Manav Ekta
Samagam. This provided an even greater spiritual atmosphere
intertwined with a desire to serve humanity selflessly as
many first time donors registered. It was particularly
poignant to see the enthusiasm that saints displayed as in
the UK 96% of people rely on the other 4% to give blood.

This auspicious day was organised through the grace and
blessings of His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, by
Rev Mahesher Singh Bhumbra (Executive Member In Charge,
Social Welfare) and with the support of the National Social
Welfare Advisory Team. This event proved hugely successful
with Sewa Dal volunteers travelling from all regions of the
country; from South to North and East to West.
The enthusiasm of all saints to fulfil His Holiness’
vision that “blood is to flow in veins and not in drains”,
was clearly visible with over 150 saints registering to
participate. Of the 86 who were seen 72 were successful in
their attempt to give blood due to stringent guidelines from
the National Blood Service and due to the fact that only 2
mobile blood vehicles were available.

The harmonious nature of all in attendance was evident in
the words, spirit and action of all those saints who
donated, were unable to donate and in the numerous UK Sewa
Dal members who worked tirelessly and selflessly to provide
continuous refreshments and a community meal (langar)
throughout the day.
The support and dedication of the National Blood Service
was also truly inspirational and hugely appreciated.
Jacquie Hall from the National Blood Service support team,
said “I would like to thank everyone at the Sant Nirankari
Mission for the wonderful hospitality and support. All
members have been very helpful and conducted themselves in a
friendly, approachable and organised manner. Collecting
blood today has been a very positive experience and the
interest has been overwhelming from your community. A very
warm and heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped today be
a success. We look forward to returning in the future”.
