Adopt a Road Project in Sydney

With the blessings of His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj Sant Nirankari Mission in Sydney, Australia  have been participating in “Adopt a Road” project for about 6 years. The project has approval of Blacktown City Council that has jurisdiction over the area. As part of the project, a 3.5 km length section of Richmond Road starting from Rooty Hill Road North junction to Garfield Road junction which is the main road on either side of the Bhawan is cleaned every quarter. For the first quarter of 2011 the cleaning work was undertaken on Saturday, January 8, 2011. About 25 devotees of the Mission arrived at the Sant Nirankari Bhawan, Marsden Park, Sydney at 8:00 am to participate in the cleanup.

Rev Ravi Kakkar coordinated the Sewa and split the devotees into teams. All participants were briefed about safety measures and provided with rubbish bags, reflective vests, sunscreen, water and other protective gear. Devotees took about three hours to complete the project. After completing the Sewa the devotees expressed their thanks to Almighty Nirankar and His Holiness. Saints who could not physically take up the road cleanup due to health or other reasons encouraged the other participating saints and engaged in serving them with breakfast, tea, water and other condiments. The Parmukh of SNM, Sydney - Rev Chanbir Singh Ji - blessed the devotees after the Sewa and commended their selfless efforts. He further prayed to His Holiness that such divine thoughts of devotees be strengthened and they continue to participate in service of the community.

“Adopt a Road” project helps in creating a clean neighbourhood and creates awareness about our Mission in the community. It provides peace and happiness to devotees carrying out this service with an attitude of devotion, selfless service and submission to the Almighty Nirankar and His Holiness. The Sydney SNM has received numerous awards and notes of appreciation from the Blacktown City Council for undertaking the “Adopt a Road” project and serving the community.
