With the Blessings of His Holiness Satguru Baba Hardev
Singh Ji Maharaj, Yorkshire Nirankari Volunteers organised a
special assembly to celebrate Father’s Day and a vision of
‘Unity in Diversity’, within a multicultural and multi-faith
society, at Yorkshire Nirankari Bhawan on 20th June 2010.
Very distinguished and prominent dignitaries including
the Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Peter Hill, Local
Councillors, together with Dr Satwant Reit Gen. Secretary, Yorkshire and
Humberside interfaith Forum and other religious groups from
across the community filled the Yorkshire Nirankari Bhawan at
Napier Street in Bradford.
The Lord Mayor was awarded with a ‘shield of excellence’ in
recognition of his services to the Bradford community. The Lord
Mayor graciously accepted this honour on behalf of ALL Fathers
and further echoed the sentiments of the mission’s ideals and
message of Love, Peace and Unity within our community and across
all nations. He commemorated mission’s tireless work and efforts
in acting as a bridge amongst the different communities and
faiths.
Rev H.S. Upashak presided over the assembly and in his
discourse said that it is not enough to give just a father’s day
card, once a year. We must look after our elders since we are
indebted with their love and affection. We need to encourage our
youngsters to do this as looking at the current trend in UK for
the last few years, by 2033, it is estimated that 25% of our
population will be 65 or over. Government is also considering
social care in UK. So we need to prepare ourselves as a
community, taking our responsibilities and caring as much as
possible for our elders. He further said that spirituality;
self-realisation and enlightenment can give this courage and
strength to become a responsible citizen.
