Organ Donation Campaign in West Midlands

An Organ Donation Campaign was launched in the West Midlands in February of this year by respected Puneet Ahuja in conjunction with which was closed on Manav Ekta Divas (Human Unity Day) on the 24th April 2010. The Spirit of Unity is what inspired this young devotee to commence this initiative and of course the shortage of organ donors that we find in the United Kingdom. It was noted through a media campaign that British Asians account for only 1% of the organ donation register but are three times more likely to have a need for an organ transplant due to their lifestyle and genetics.

As a result of this good work there is now interest from the Local Primary Care Trust to continue the initiative working in conjunction with the Mission. At the closure of the campaign over 165 people had registered with a further 18 online applications being made. It is anticipated that over 220 people will have become registered in total within the next few days.
