To encourage Adult Education, the West Midlands Branch of
the Sant Nirankari Mission, in conjunction with Sandwell
Local Authority has launched a new free course in January
2010. The enrolment took place within the first week of the
year and demand by applicants far outweighed the seats
available for the course.
The course in itself is a Certificate in developing
Health and Fitness and is being taught by Acharya Dr Praveen
Kumar and will lead to attaining a GCSE certificate which is
recognised by the Government. The approach of Dr Kumar has
been to provide Holistic teaching methods to healthcare and
after the initial introductions to the course, he has
followed the curriculum to consider balanced dietary needs
and types and categories of food. There has been great media
interest about the food that we eat due to the increasing
obesity issues in the UK. Dr Kumar has also expressed the
view that, “You are what you eat” and suggesting that great
consideration should be given to the food we consume as it
does have an impact on one’s spirituality be it Saatvic,
Rajassic or Thamassic food.
All those who have joined the course are finding it very
informative and enriching. The Mission once again takes
strides to promote education and lead people to physical
wellbeing as well as meeting their spiritual needs.
