A camp was organized by the Social Welfare department of Sant Nirankari Mandal at Pradhan Labh Singh Memorial Hall at the Senior Secondary School in Nirankari Colony on 19 June 2010, under the Drug Rehabilitation campaign. About 100 people pledged to get rid of this ill habit.

Brig. (Retd) Rev Shamsher Singh quoted the words of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji in this context who said during the Mussoorie Conference in 1973 – “All the devotees present here may pledge to refrain from consumption of any intoxicants (alcohol, poppy, marijuana, cigarette etc), as it is already ordered to refrain from the same. We have to be determined not to consume the intoxicants since these things obstruct our preaching and welfare activities. This doesn’t mean that our outlook on eating habits has changed or there is a change in our tenets.  However, for the welfare of society, all devotees need to avoid the consumption of intoxicants.”

Brig. Shamsher Singh said that Baba Hardev Singh Ji has also stressed upon complete eradication of drug addiction. Those who obeyed this order of Satguru have experienced improvement in their lives. If our lives can get beautified, it can happen for our neighbours as well, he said.
