The Rice Pudding
- by: Abhey Blaggan
There were once three man, who lived together. One day they made rice pudding. After they had all eaten as much as they could, they realized that there was a small amount remaining, but only enough for one of them. The decided that the one who woke the next morning and told the best dream would be allowed to eat the leftover pudding.
The next morning, they told each other what they dreamt about that night. The first man said, “In my dream, I was praying with Shri Ram Ji in a elaborate temple. It was such a joyous occasion.
The second man said, “I dreamt that Lord Krishna was sitting by a river with his friends. They were laughing and dancing, and I was so happy that I joined in wit6h them. It was such a good dream.”
The third man said, “My dream has to be the worst of all. I dreamt that Dharm Raj, the lord of death, sent one of his messengers to me. The messenger began hitting me with his stick and told me to wake up and eat the rice pudding.
The first man asked, “So what did you then?”
The third man replied, “What could I do? I had to get up and eat the rice pudding because the messenger kept on beating me.”
The moral if this story is that whoever does the action will get the reward; in this case the reward was the rice pudding. The other men were trying to make their dreams exciting so they could have the pudding, but the third man took action and reaped the reward.
