The Mind and God
This anonymous offering from one of our international readers investigates the age old problem of the division between the Mind and God. Presenting his personal vies on this matter; UT encourages other readers to express their personal thoughts and response on similar topics.
I believe there is a division between the mind and the creator. One definition of mind is,
That Consciousness, considered residing in the human brain, manifested especially in thought, perception, feeling, will, memory and imagination
That is just one definition of the human mind. God, however is
The Almighty power that creates, maintains, and destroyer
The doctrine of ‘creationism’, ascribes the origin of all matter and living forms, as they now exist, to distinct acts of creation by God. However, we can avoid the theories of pantheism and scientific creationist concepts if we define the creator as the Truth: the Generator, Operator and Destroyer – not just as creator.
There is more to God than just creating, that just being the ‘truth’, and to human beings just existing on the surface of planet earth for no apparent reason. The qualities of God are limitless. Even if the human mind were super expanded, through empowered enlightened through (or Spiritual Knowledge), we would still be tiny organisms on the surface of this celestial body. How ever it is through such enlightenment that we become connected to the supreme consciousness permeating throughout the ‘multiverse’, and it is be the experience of this that the human mind is able to evolve beyond the ‘mind that is housed by our physical brain’.
The truth remains constant and all of creation is subject to change – since time apples deterioration on all of creation. Yet God is above our scientific understanding of time. Our faith knows that God works in the past, in the present and in the future – all at once. However, our system of belief coaxes our limited mortal minds to develop an intelligent explanation, in all that we explore or experience. Just as your mind has been doing whilst reading the article… … …
There are many complicated theories, as to what this division between the mind and creator is. Some believe it’s ignorance; some say, it is a biological appendage of the body called an eye; others believe there is no such thing as a mind, only an element of God himself. However, I believe that it is only through accepting the reality of a division between God and the mind that we can explain the temporal passing phases of pleasure and pain, joy and sorrow that we experience in our daily lives. When the veil between mind and God in removed, only then do we appreciate the reunification between the depth of soulful consciousness, and the shallow mundane mortal responsible mind.
Our past ancestors have transcribed a truth of genial appreciation – one which the various holy scriptures have affirmed in their every word. Today, our spiritual congregations enable us to explore that truth in the presence of the true Spiritual Guide, His Holiness Baba Hardev – without whom our mission would be just an anonymous institution, and of religious cosmopolitan orientation.
I believe that there is a subtle division between the mind and God. The mind lives in the plane where all things are subject to change, but when one is encouraged to permeate this division, the mind is then able to associate itself with that which is eternal. This is the awakening of faith, which is brought about by the grace of a true master, who may himself be considered to be the Mind of God.
