SPIRITUAL RAYS SHOW US THE WAYS
- C.L. Gulati
(Chandigarh, India)
Humility has
been the core message of prophets and Sages down the ages, which touches the heart of
every individual. The legendary references of foot-wash and devotion of devotee
Bheelini with Lord Rama; Lord Krishna touching and washing the feet of Sudama; Lord Christ
washing the feet of his discipkes; Guru Nanak Devs exphasis on washing the feet of
Saints and consuming Charan-Amrit (nectar), all go to establish the principle of humility
which has always been considered the back-bone of humanity. This trait of humility is most
required whenever pride is on the increase and arrogance rules the roost in every sphere
of human existence.
It stands
proven with scientific references that subtle rays, originating from within and radiating
out, surround each human being. These are what consitute to a persons aura. It is
this aura that induces a soothing and peaceful feeling when we are in the company of
spiritual personages.
The impact of
this aura theory reminds me of an actual life incident which is worth mentioning here. Mr
Narain Dutt was regular visitor to the congregation of Saints. He was an enlightened
person living a very content and peaceful life. On one particular Sunday, When he was
returning from congregation, he come across a purse full of currency notes and important
documents, including a visiting card. With his heart within God, Mr Narain made frantic
efforts to locate the owner of the purse with the assistance of the nearby police, and
heaved a sigh of relief after handing over the purse to the concerned person, namely, Maya
Dass. Impressed by the exemplary honesty on the part of Mr. Dutt, Mr Dass expressed his
thinks and also wanted to reward Mr Dutt with some money, which he refused to accept.
After great persuasion, Mr Dutt agreed to accompany him to a nearby restaurant for some
coffee.
Mr Maya Dass
and Mr Narain Dutt were sitting face to face in the resuaurant sharing coffee. Mr Dass
explored the possibility of using the services of the honest Mr Dutt in his business,
With the meager salary you are getting in our office, you must be living from hand
to mouth. I wish you to join my firm and take care of my secret accounts. I will pay you a
handsome salary. Sharing the bounties of my business, you will soon have a good house, a
car and other comforts of life. You family will enjoy life. These words and the aura
of Mr Maya Dass mesmerized Mr Dutt for a while. A reel of mundane luxuries flashed across
his mind.
Back to the
coffee, Mr Dass looked at the silver spoons in the tray. He took two spoons and stealthily
put them in his pocket. The manager of the restaurant sitting at a distance noticed this.
After the coffee was over, they went to the counter to make the payment. On receiving a
hundred rupee not from Mr Dass, the manager asked him politely but firmly, You have
removed two silver spoons from the table. Those may be returned or the cost thereof may be
paid. Mr Dutt was confused. He would never have imagined that Mr Maya Dass coul even
think to steal. After a heated exchange of words, the truth was revealed with the
discovery of the two spoons in the pocket of Mr. Dass.
All said and
done, Mr Maya Dass could not explain his conduct. Mr. Dutts eyes were opened to
reality. He regretted having accompanied an anti-social person devoid of character and
pledged to remain in the company of Saints whose aura provides purity and peace, bringing
out the age-old truth,
"When money is lost, nothing is lost, when health is lost, something is lost, when character is lost, everything is lost!"
While Mr
Narain Dutt regretted, Mr Maya Dass repented over the spoon episode. His eyes were also
opened to reality and he too pledged to remain in the company of humble and honest persons
to follow more contented and morally satisfying ways.
Another
example comes to mind: a jail Superintendent was living with his family at his native
hometown exclusively to look after his aged parents with the utmost care and sincerity
leading an honest and humble life. All of a sudden, he started to repeatedly see an evil
dream where he saw himself dragging his mother by her hair and beating her with his shoes
in the street. He become very panicky and could not reconcile the dreadful scene, even in
his dreams. He approached a saint to get rid of this traumatic situation. The saint
questioned him, Who are the other people living in your house? he quickly
replied, None, except a recently appointed cook. To the next question,
Who is the cook? he replied, A Jailer.
When he was
asked to identify the charge for which he was convicted and sent to jail, the jail
superintendent discovered that the cook had killed his mother. With this revelation, the
saint advised the superintendent, The negative aura of your cook is affecting you.
So, neither eat the meals cooked by him, nor keep in your home any longer. The
theory of the aura was believed, the cook was dismissed and the result was that the
superintendent never witnessed such dreadful dream thereafter.
The
discussion of the two cases unfolds the secret that the more a man is exposed to the
universal spirit and the prophet of the time, the more he becomes humble and human. When
spiritual revelation takes place, man becomes conscious that other human being are his own
kith and kin. The whole humanity becomes an extended form of ones own self and one
becomes a co-participant in the weal and woe of mankind The humility born out of
spirituality. The humility born out of spiritual is neither any expression of cowardice
nor a strategy but an act of courage without pride, vainglory and false sense of status
and material possessions.
Now the
question also arises as to whose aura influences whom in this cross section of multiple
society? It is firmly recorded in history that the spiritual rays emitted by the persons
who are perfectly and firmly in communion with the Universal Spirit, are said to be the
purest and the strongest. These rays show the ways to the huminity at large.
While the
rays of Saints provide a soothing effect on the mind of a person, imbibing the real
message of such personages provides a compass of righteousness in the mind of the
recipient which guides him throughout his life. In the words of Lord Christ,
"If you acknowledge me, is shall direct you on all thy paths."
It is for the
reason that Baba Avtar Singh Ji stressed upon the company of enlightened Saints and guards
against the way-fares:
"Pakkian De Nal Mil Ke Baitho, Kachian De Vich Milo Na;
Loki Lakh Bhulekhe Pavan, Apni Thanh Toh Hillo Na."
You should always seek the company of those who are firm in faith, and not with those who weaken you;
Those of little faith may create all kinds of doubts, but you should remain steadfast.
