MAKING OTHERS HAPPY
- By Navtesh Nihal
There was once a man who saw a lit candle as he walked by. He asked the candle, "Dont you feel upset that you get lit at night and burn away by morning? Your life is wasted so quickly."
The candle replied,
"No I dont feel upset because the light I give to others makes them happy. I am happy when others are happy. This makes my short life worthwhile."
The man carried on walking and saw a large tree bearing fruit. He asked the tree,
"Dont you feel upset when people throw stones at you for your fruit or when people come to cut you down for your firewood?"
The tree replied, "No, I dont feel upset. I feel happiness when I see others enjoying my fruit. I am also happy when I see others enjoying my fruit. I am also happy when I see people enjoying the heat and light produced by my firewood. I also provide shade for people during hot summer days. I feel happy when others are happy. Similarly, we should be happy when others are happy. We should feel satisfied when our work brings a smile to someone elses face. When we are happy, we should share our happiness with others and spread love. Love was made to be shared and spread. Just like a river provides cool water to quench the thirst of others on a hot day, we should bring the same happiness to others and we, too, will feel happy. Baba Ji has said that saints always continue to do their work regardless of what is going on around them. No matter what people say the saints continue to spread love and seek to share the light of truth with everyone.
Even if the light is small and the darkness if vast, the light is still valuable and people are attracted towards it. May Nirankar bless us all so that we can increase our efforts to spread love and happiness wherever we go.
